Yes, Augusta has NO experience and no history in the mining industry. Unlike BHP who totally reclaimed and restored the mining operations in San Manuel, Augusta has no history.

Besides draining precious water resources in our desert, they will cause air pollution, noise pollution and they fail to reveal the truth to their investors. Each day the explosive detonations will be heard and felt maybe as far away as Green Valley and Sahuarita. These explosions will cause toxic dust!

The open pit for the Rosemont Copper mine will be excavated right into the middle of a major aquifer for the region. While the mine is operating, continuous pumping will be necessary to prevent the mine from flooding. According to Rosemont’s planning documents, when the mine closes, pumping will cease and storm run-off will be directed into the pit and a “pit lake” will be created. Experience with other mines clearly indicates the potential that water in this pit lake will become a highly toxic soup and as a result, a risk of it seeping into the groundwater—contaminating this aquifer, a key southern Arizona water source.

Augusta Resources could go bankrupt, leaving a massive gaping hole and a pile of toxic tailings on public land for Arizona tax payers to cover in perpetuity.
