It’s a slow news week before the end of the year but small cap OTC stocks ZAP (OTC: ZAAP), Techprecision Corporation (OTC: TPCS) and Global Security Agency (OTC: GSAG) managed to issue (or create) news for investors. Specifically, ZAP (ZAAP) has has the maturity date of a convertible note extended, Techprecision Corporation (TPCS) gave an update along with revenue projections for next year and Global Security Agency (GSAG) announced that they are quickly moving forward with their new partner to win new contracts. However, should investors or traders alike consider ZAP (ZAAP), Techprecision Corporation (TPCS) or Global Security Agency (GSAG) and their latest news? Here is a closer look at all three to help you decide:
ZAP (OTC: ZAAP)
ZAP is a designer and manufacturer of electric vehicles and electric vehicle power systems. On Thursday, ZAP announced that it and China Electric Vehicle Corporation (CEVC) have agreed to extend the maturity date of the $19 million convertible note held by CEVC until August 12, 2012. ZAP also noted that it anticipates achieving a set of significant milestones in product delivery and new model rollouts during 2012. ZAP then rose 4.76% to $0.220 (ZAAP has a 52 week trading range of $0.13 to $1.86 a share) for a market cap of $50 million. Investors should note that ZAP has reported rising revenues of $14,088k (most recent quarter), $16,266k, $11,708k and $1,134k but also huge net losses of $8,862k (most recent quarter), $12,580k, $7,999k and $11,419k. In addition, ZAP has reported having $4,817k in cash and $1,426k in short-term investments to cover $50,789k in current liabilities as of September 30th. In other word’s, ZAP’s financial picture is not particularly exciting for investors while at least the short and medium term potential for electric vehicles beyond a small market (basically upper income liberal west coast yuppies) remains questionable.
The Bottom Line. For now, I’d give electric car maker ZAP (ZAAP) a pass
