Why would a company speculate on 'potential possibilites and avenues that will lead to revenue' in public without just pursuing them privately?

Also, I didn't know it was any company's job to educate their potential shareholders.

Yes. Any company which does not communicate in a proper and professional manner is not representing itself properly.
