FWIW, when K-Mart went into BK, their shares traded for some time below/above $1. When they emerged 16 months later, the "KM" shares were cancelled and became worthless. New shares were issued under then name KMRT, primarily to creditors. Existing shareholders received zip, nada, nothing!

That said, there is plenty of money to be made in short term trading, but don't count on the stock being worth anything when the exit BK.
