Normally - true!

2. I believe a couple of the pat. pendings are for provisional patents, which would, imo, have expired after 1 year. Or perhaps the provisionals preceeded the 1 they did apply for?


True - provisionals are only good for one year and are NORMALLY followed in one year from their initial filing by a regular filing while maintaining the filing date of the provisional for protection purposes - that is what a provisional is all about - getting an as early a filing date as possible. Were the provisionals followed up? I have no idea.

3. Would only a US patent give the patent holder the protection without it being nationalized?


A US patent only protects the invention in the USA. For wider protection other patents would need to be obtained in other contries usually through the WIPO-PCT system.
