Gold is one of the heaviest metals on earth. It is an attractive metal and does not tarnish or corrode. It is a good conductor of heat and electricity. It is also soft and the most malleable and ductile of all metals. Gold is extracted from the earth and always contains other unwanted elements. Gold undergoes a purification process to remove these elements and obtain pure gold. There are two ways of refining gold. These methods are the Wohlwill process and the Miller process which result in varying levels of gold purity. The Miller process is rapid and simple, but it produces gold of only about 99.5 percent purity.
