A true long does the DD and understands the business plan and has to wait until it plays out. Most times it plays our longer than anyone wants to. If a plan does not work out it comes down to variables such as poor implementation, outside factors etc

A short is betting against that. Betting is the key word. When you bet you are hoping on luck.
