If you have enough losses for this calendar year, postponing the CLSC losses until next year is the right way to go. I have the actual opposite, yet pleasant problem. I can't close out my short (not that I would want to realize my gains) so I'll "hold" onto this position to the day I die. A broker will not sell you a worthless stock just in case a miracle happens.
