This has either been a total scam from the beginning, or another vitim of the economic downturn. Nevertheless there ARE some business that are thriving, you just have to find the angle.

I am not clear as to the will, vision and intent of their new business model.

I don't like linkedin. I think there is an angle here, but they need to be on the level and they need to kick it in gear!
