Agreed. But also less suspicious (as you point out) since the parties involved in the removal of David W were all present, out in public, and can have further failure (or overt criminal behavior) strapped to them like an anchor now.

Whatever happens from here on out - at some level they will own the success OR failure without their convenient (whether justified or not) scapegoat.
