I had a wonderfully fascinating 96-yr-old friend (she passed this summer) who used to say she was glad she was on this end of life's spectrum and not the other. Yes, I think America's glory days are likely over. One can only remain Top Nation for so long. We were lucky to have lived through the best times, but that makes this slide into lawlessness and chaos all the more difficult to accept and adapt to.
Went shopping in an upscale mall yesterday. Most of the higher-end shops were empty (Cartier, Bulgari, Tiffany, Coach, Prada, Saks, etc.) but the Mall had normal traffic (light considering it is 10 days to Christmas). Every store had sales on, even Victoria's Secret and Nordstrom. Salespeople were very aggressive in trying to close the sale, even in small shoe stores where they wouldn't take no for an answer, said "take them home you have a month to return them if you don't like them", or "let us put that item on hold for you?", they just wouldn't let you walk out unsold!
The Apple Store was fairly crowded but I've seen it much worse. One store that was very crowded was LuLuLemon Athletica (LULU) which was sold out of everything we had gone there to buy (great clothes BTW, but expensive for athletic wear. I was looking for a pair of pants that everyone says makes any girl's butt look great, but they were sold out! Ruined my Christmas, so sad. . .LOL).
Moral of this story: if you must play retail stocks, play LULU (disclaimer: I do not now own nor have any financial interest in LULU or its stock, but wish I had bought some a while back when I first heard the stock mentioned, but too late now -- look at that chart -- the Inverted Hammer this month so far indicates a potential bottom reversal and the shorter-term charts look about ready to pop soon!).
