I recently saw a good friends dad loose a significant portion of his retirement on a P & D scam that he was lured into. The man is almost 70..
He was devastated and almost lost his family.

Some rules of the game, just to name a few:

1) Do your own DD
2) Decide for yourself if it is a good investment
3) Don't invest money you cannot afford to lose (not loose)
4) Don't invest on the sole basis of a recommendation, regardless of the source

Obviously, he didn't follow any of the rules and it costs him.
