Shareholder of record is not what you think it is..the shareholder of record is not necessarily the individual who purchased the stock...thus you cannot know how many investors actually own shares whether long or short term...

It's another statistic that is usually completely inaccurate...kinda like shares shorted..that can be fairly accurate or completely distorted to the upside or downside...there are many such statistics that people use and assume are accurate...and in the end none of those stats matter one bit anyway...not to longs and not to traders...

There are literally thousands of stats out there...you can try to know a little bit about all of them or a lot about a dozen of them that really matter...
