That's because ancient explorers thought the world was flat. That...or perhaps it had something to do with the universe orbiting around our planet.

Or it had something to do with those pesky French colonialists that inhabited the Mississippi river basin.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact we used (and continue to use) the imperial system over the metric system.

Who knows? One thing we can be certain of is the Native Americans do not support the Washington Redskins football team.
