When possible, I do that. Up to a point. But obviously you can't nail a scam before it begins, any more than cops can arrest a person before he robs a bank.
The best advice I can give is to familiarize yourself with individuals and entities that have run scams in the past, and run if they show up on your radar screen.
But most people don't do that, anyway. They buy instead. I could name a number of current hot stocks that will end badly for anyone not nimble enough to escape in time.
