SYDNEY (ANI) -- Most women wear bra everyday but none of them have ever questioned whether they have any health impact.

Researchers from the University of Western Sydney are now investigating whether that could be the case, studying the impact of wearing bra on a woman's breathing, blood pressure and fluid drainage from the breast.

Osteopathy students Angie Bruce, Lee Muddle and Fiona Peat are looking for 50 women to take part in their two-day study, which will examine the physiological differences in a woman who is wearing a bra and when she is braless.

They are keen to examine the effect of bras on women because it is a subject few, if any, researchers have studied. One area of particular interest is how the constrictions of a bra affect fluid drainage in the breast, which has been flagged as a possible link to cancer.

"Research shows that just under 50 percent of breast cancer cases can be attributed to genetics, hormones and things like that. That means there's about 50 percent of cancer cases that are unexplained", Muddle said.

If the study found a change in the level of fluid drainage, it could lay the foundations for further research on its possible link to breast cancer.

"If we find that wearing a bra impacts positively or negatively on a woman's health it will have significant ramifications for all women. Perhaps it will influence the duration of daily wear and the design and manufacture of brassieres", Muddle said.
