Banks: I believe the aquisition of privately held companies goes much quicker than the aquisition of a publicly held company. Makes sense to me that in the private situation only one or a handful of people need to agree, not x% of shareholders and tons of SEC paperwork to file.

Just imagine how quick an aquisition is if both the aquiring and aquired company's are privately held.
