Former UFC Champs Arlovski & Sylvia Earn Wins At ProElite: Big Guns Event
Press Release – NOVEMBER 5, 2011(MOLINE,IL.) In the main event of the evening, former 5 time world champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia out classed a very game Andreas “Big Daddy” Kraniotakes. After an exciting back and forth first round that saw each fighter stagger their opponent, Sylvia imposed a controlling game plan pinning Kraniotakes along the cage fence. Every judge saw the fight 30-27 for the hard hitting Betterdorf native. This win moves Sylvia’s win streak to 2 in a row.
The co-main event brought a extremely memorable ending by the Pitbull, as Andrei Arlovski had a highlight reel knockout of the very experienced Travis “The Ironman” Fulton by headkick at the end of the third round. The main card was rounded out by the quarter finals of the Heavyweight Grand Prix. The most notable bout of the tournament was an electrifiying knockout victory for Salt Lake City’s own Jake Heun. In the very first round of his bout, Heun put Ed Carpenter to sleep with a headkick followed by some vicious ground and pound.
In the other bouts of the Grand Prix, Ryan Martinez bested tournament favorite Mark Ellis by unanimous decision, Cody Griffin had a come from behind knockout of Justyn Riley in the third round, and Richard “The Black Eagle” Odoms outlasted a game Rodney Housley to advance to the semifinals of the Grand Prix.
