Trends in Tantalum and Niobium Capacitors

Hmmm.

I wonder what they should do with the old SRSR shell... you know, when they're done using it...

Might be fun to see them convert it into an R&D outfit... focused on extending the tech, with efforts that will make more and better niobium more useful in more applications ?

The lowest possible cost is at one "end" of the value equation... with the other end in that equation being the highest possible value inherent in "better" products that are worth more than others are... and "better" enough that people have to have them ?

Lower cost production of higher value products... is good.

Higher cost production of vastly higher value products... isn't all that bad at thing, either.

There aren't that many niobium producers... but, what happens to it once the stuff does hit the market ? How many suppliers of niobium based materials are there... for uses other than as a steel additive ?

Capacitors that are safer, because they don't explode... or short out... sound like a good idea to me. What other future uses might there be for niobium, that could alter future demand for "value added" end uses ? What other products might there be, that could alter the value a primary producer is able to extract, more easily than others, from things done nearer to the primary processing steps ?

How many steps are there, anyway... How many times is a material transported... between the raw bulk stuff that comes directly from a basic producer, and the end users, in the higher value added applications ?

I'm sure the market for those things is vastly smaller... in volume.
