That is not true, the San Juans are not a part of the Rockies, I lived in durango and 10 miles south of silverton, in the heart of the mighty San Juans for nearly 8 years, near molas pass. The San Juans are a younger and growing mountain range, while the Rockies are older and actually receding which causes the rocks to crumble hence the name "Rockies".
