Heat on mouse puts a car on ice

A startled motorist lost control of his car and ran off the road into the snow because a mouse popped out of a dashboard vent and leaped onto his chest, the Montana Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

Walter D. Miller, 59, Silesia, told officers the rodent was scampering inside his coat, so he let go of the steering wheel with both hands.

He caught the mouse, but the car veered off Int. Hw. 90 into the snow Monday night, sustaining about $500 in damage, said Highway Patrol officer Dallas Adkins.

The mouse was nesting in the car’s heating vent, and it apparently got too hot for it when Miller turned on the heater, Adkins said.

The motorist squashed the mouse and kept the corpse as proof of the incident.
