HTI stated the documentation was submitted in accordance with the Clean Diesel Verification Process seeking status as an approved technology under the EPA's NCDC program. The company stated that the status of being the only hydrogen related product on the NCDC approved technology list would establish the HTI Wildcat Hydrogen Supplemental Fuel System as the recognized leader in hydrogen technology. The Wildcat Hydrogen Supplemental Fuel System is a supplemental fuel system that increases fuel efficiency in internal combustion engines, both diesel and gas, in applications such as cars, boats, tractor-trailer rigs, agriculture and industrial equipment. In the continued effort of pursuing verification of the HTI Wildcat System, on September 27, 2011, company representatives performed an on-site demonstration and provided emissions information to approximately twenty staff members of the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), in which an 18 percent improvement in fuel economy was achieved and acknowledged by all present. According to the ADEQ website, the Arkansas government branch exists to protect the air, water and land from the threat of pollution and strives for environmental quality through programs of regulation, education and assistance. Many of its objectives parallel closely to those of the EPA. HTI stated that the successful demonstration of its technology for the ADEQ was part of a comprehensive plan that resulted in the completion of the necessary documentation to apply for verification and approval of the Wildcat Hydrogen Supplemental Fuel System with the EPA's NCDC program. http://www.adeq.state.ar.us/
For the past eight months, HTI has been working with multiple firms in testing of the Wildcat Hydrogen Booster in preparation for the EPA filing. Independent testing and compilation of in-field results has laid the ground work for HTI to confidently pursue verification of its technology with the EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign. The EPA's website states that the NCDC promotes clean air strategies by working with manufacturers, fleet operators, air quality professionals, environmental and community organizations, and state and local officials to reduce diesel emissions.
HTI reported it has committed to the EPA to complete the Clean Diesel Verification Process for its Wildcat Hydrogen Supplemental System within the year 2012. The Clean Diesel Verification Process evaluates the emission reduction performance and durability of retrofit and clean diesel technologies and provides users with confidence the technology will perform as expected. Before being placed on the Verified Technology List, the technology must go through a thorough technical review and tightly controlled testing to quantify statistically significant levels of emission reductions. http://www.epa.gov/cleandiesel/ HTI commented that it is investigating the feasibility of simultaneous verification with the EPA and The California Air Resources Board (CARB) citing the similar nature of the processes for verification.
HTI is located in Northwest Arkansas among several of the largest transportation fleets in the United States. The company stated that the results of these demonstrations have led to pilot programs with several of the locally headquartered transportation fleets. Verified data compiled from a prominent local carrier is being used with permission in the Clean Diesel Verification Process. Documented results that exceed the carrier's expectations have encouraged cooperation in an effort to verify the Wildcat Hydrogen Supplemental Fuel System in order to establish credibility for the utilization of the technology fleet wide.
HTI reported it has been focusing on on-site demonstrations that are geared toward technology awareness. The company stated that a key element in securing fleet sales is proving the credibility of the product. HTI's demonstration at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality offices was one of numerous demonstrations being performed in the area. Demonstrations have also recently been performed for the Arkansas Transportation Authority and state government officials. CEO Charlton Coats stated, "The submission for the verification of our hydrogen supplemental fuel system to the EPA's NCDC is a culmination of many months of hard work and effort to establish credibility for our patent-pending technology. To be the first hydrogen based technology accepted as an approved product on the EPA's NCDC approved technology list gives us additional clout to the doors of opportunity we have already opened with fleets in various regions in the US and internationally."
