Deer goes through windshields on I-5
The photos of a deer that totaled a Lake woman’s car early Tuesday came with an unusual message from the State Patrol: “This is AMAZING!!”
Amazing when you see the damage and learn that the 55-year-old woman who hit the three-point buck that jumped onto Interstate 5 had only minor abrasions.
The incident happened about 9:40 a.m. when the Lacey woman was traveling south near Sleater-Kinney Road. The buck ran across all the northbound lanes and jumped over the jersey barrier in front of her car.
The deer struck her windshield, flipped over the 2001 Hyundai, went through the back window and landed in the trunk.
It sounds unbelievable, but the State Patrol sent pictures to prove it.
Best part is that even with shattered windshields, the woman safely merged her car to the right shoulder and there were no other collisions.
Troopers called to the scene had to remove the deer from the car before it could be towed away.
“This woman did an excellent job getting her car to the right shoulder without colliding with other motorists,” Trooper Guy Gill said. “Not to mention, she’s very lucky she didn’t get seriously injured.”
