JSAT forms satellite tie-up with PanAmSat for U.S.

TOKYO, June 27 (Reuters) - Japan's JSAT Corp. (9442.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday it has agreed with U.S.-based PanAmSat Holding Corp. (PA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) to jointly launch a satellite in 2007 to meet demand for high-definition TV and other services in the United States.
Japan's largest communications satellite operator said it would invest $140 million in the venture with PanAmSat, the world's third-largest communications satellite operator whose broadcast customers include CNN, HBO and MTV.
The two companies will form a joint venture company to operate a satellite that will be able to cover almost the entire U.S. market, JSAT said in a statement.
Shares of JSAT shot up on the news, ending morning trade in Tokyo up 5.04 percent at 271,000 yen. The benchmark Nikkei average lost 1.16 percent.

My comments on companies are usually my opinion of long term success (years). The PPS may go up or down greatly in the meantime depending on the number of greedy suckers with money.
