I read an article once wherein the author, also a player agent, said that there could never be another Big Red Machine. He guessed at what the annual salaries of just the starting fielders (known as the Great Eight here in Cincy) would be if they were playing today and it was a staggering number. But when you have the likes of Bench, Perez, Morgan, Foster, Rose, Concepcion, Griffey, Sr., and Geronimo on the payroll, it would be tough to afford the rest of the team, even if you were the Yankees.
