If some no-name company had sold the exact same products that Apple sold at the same price points, would it have been as successful? I doubt it, because part of the imperative for owning Apple products is a fashion statement.
Making something fashionable is as much about great marketing as it is about having a great product per se, and this is the point that 10nisman is making, as far as I can tell.
