I kind of feel a small company needs even better communication than a large one as most large companies already have some trust built over time and analyst staying on top of them. Heck, if you are going to be a public company and take someones money there are certain responsibilities that come with the territory. Like filings and informing shareholders. It is like taking a women out to a fancy dinner with a $100+ bottle of wine, flowers and a diamond necklace and then her not even giving you a kiss at the door. (not from experience been married 35 years)
