I've been watching copper prices and am now pretty convinced it's in for a long-term pullback.

I remember as a kid around '89 or so, picking up all of the copper pipe and wire trimmings around the house construction around my home. I hesitate to call it a neighborhood because only a few years earlier it had been an old bean field in rural MS. After filling a pretty large box up it must have been close to twenty pounds of copper. I think the recycling place gave me WELL BELOW a dollar a pound. It was just enough to pay for my half of a small cheap scope for my .22 rifle. I'm pretty certain my dad matched my copper profits. If I had that box of copper today, a few months ago I could have bought the rifle itself back then.

I'm not sure what caused the boom in price around 2004. Maybe it was a delayed response to the tech boom some years earlier? Did demand finally deplete inventories?
