rule of thumb I almost never average down and I only do in situations like this at a good entry point where I am super comfortable adding and also my reasoning is I want some more of the new shares when the spinoff happens :) greed is not a bad thing sometimes..... I average up all the time and I have no problem making my cost average higher as the stock rises :)
