Viking Minerals Bullish About Its Dolly Varden Property as Goldman Sachs Recommends Copper print Viking Minerals (OTCBB:VKML) Intraday Stock Chart Today : Wednesday 21 September 2011
"VIKING MINERALS INC. (OTCBB: VKML) (www.vikingmineralsinc.com) reports that according to an article published by the Financial Post / Reuters, that 'Goldman Sachs recommended investors open long positions in copper as well as zinc this week. Technical buying and "the Goldman effect" helped base metals to rally despite a robust dollar, an LME floor trader said. At the moment the base metals are benefitting from positive demand expectations and are rallying after recent base building," FastMarkets said in a note.'
"Viking Minerals is encouraged by these recent copper price reports from the financial industry and how the improving economy appears to have increased the copper production shortfall," stated Charles Irizarry, President and CEO of Viking Minerals. "That combined with the fact that our Dolly Varden property is in 'elephant country' near the Bingham Canyon Mine - the world's largest open pit mine which produced approximately 14.5 million tons of copper - makes us feel very bullish about our copper property."
In another part of the same Financial Post / Reuters article, it stated that 'Copper output from the world's largest mine, Chile's Escondida, fell 4.2% in the first quarter versus a year ago to 235,270 tonnes on maintenance and lower ore grades, it said in a statement on Tuesday. "The headline news about Escondida is a reminder to people that this is a market where the raw material picture is extremely tight this year," said analyst Gayle Berry of Barclays Capital. Escondida said its output during the first quarter comprised 157,976 tonnes of copper contained in concentrate, and 77,294 tonnes of copper cathodes.'
