I for One look at this as a disclaimer.
I know some Companys will deliberatly Short their own Stocks.

I think this is the Companys way of stating they did not. and in fact are under attack by either competitors or shorts for reason of Gain.
As they stated in last fridays Pr;... "enquiries into the Company's business and domestic customers mounted by certain shareholders and interested parties without the Company's approval or endorsement" KEY WORDS...."without the Company's approval or endorsement"

Without that said, a Short would try to make people belive that maybe the Company was bringing down the stock for some reason.
