NetFlix to offer Video Games, Move over GameFly
Posted September 19th, 2011 by theStockMasters... in Financial News
NetFlix's (NASDAQ:NFLX) DVD service is being renamed as Qwikster and it will offer video game rentals just like GameFly.com. The new site Qwikster.com is only a one page welcome screen for now. Qwikster will start “in a few weeks,” and will offer video games for Nintendo Co.’s (NTDOY) Wii, Sony Corp.’s (SNE) PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp.’s (MSFT) XBOX 360 consoles.

Best part, here will be no price changes associated with the move (for now). If you want games, GameFly is the No. 1 service, not to mention it only costs $7.95 per month. With no price changes we assume one game out a time from NetFlix/Qwikster would be $7.99 a month.

Let us remember the failed GameZnFlix, they tried DVD and Video Games and failed miserably. However to be fair GameZnFlix's service was terrible.

NetFlix shares are down 2% today at $152.01, the stock has fallen 27% since last week.

Sept. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Netflix Inc. plans to separate its DVD-by-mail service from movie streaming, a move the company said will give both businesses a better chance to grow.

The DVD-only service will be called Qwikster and add video games to the current movies and television shows, Reed Hastings, chief executive officer of Los Gatos, California-based Netflix said yesterday in a blog post. The streaming service will keep the Netflix name.

The move grew out of the realization that the businesses had different cost structures and marketing needs, Hastings said in the post. Separating them will allow each to grow and operate independently, he said.

“It’s hard for me to write this after over 10 years of mailing DVDs with pride, but we think it is necessary and best: We will rename our DVD by mail service ‘Qwikster,’” Hastings said.
