DeeDog, You are correct, it was a P51 Mustang. It had been modified for the races, but had just passed all FAA inspections & the pilot, although 70+ years old, was a highly talented and very experienced pilot. He had hundreds of hours in this plane and was considered an "expert" pilot.
I am in southern Nevada, a long way from Reno, but the news here is all about this tragedy. The reports are pretty gruesome.
The number of fatalities and injured are still questionable as the crowd was pretty chewed up by flying debris from the crash. The total number of injured will definitely be climbing. Word has it many "walking wounded" left under their own power to seek medical help wherever possible. The totals are still unknown and probably will be for days.
My info about the injured is coming third hand from nursing community tending to them. (Nevada is a sparsely populated state by comparison to most others, so there is a lot of connections all over the state in the medical community. My wife has quite a few friends in the Reno area who work in the medical field.)

Wishing for the best and praying for the victims.
I hope Airdale1 was in a bar someplace having a beer.
Let your PCFG friends know how you are, when you can Airdale1.

I just hang out here for the fun of it, that
doesn't mean I'm smart.
