Just wandering if anyone knows how long it take the insurance providers before they buy into covering a new medical device/test. Who pays for that cost until they do? In the case of Biocurex's test will it be the patient, Abbott or Biocurex?

My wife and I had a similar experience with a new medical device made by Term Guard that was in developmental stages. She was the first patient in our city/area to use the device.

With our first child she went into labor 2 months early. Our daughter had to stay in the high risk nursery for 1 week. You can imagine how costly that is. When our second child was born her OBGYN prescribed the Term Guard's monitor during her pregnancy. She would strap the monitor on her belly and send the data every day via telephone once a day. She also went into labor early with our second child, since she was using the monitor they were able to detect the early labor, she went to the hospital early enough so the doctor was able to stop her labor. This happened a couple of times during the latter stages of her pregnancy. by using the monitor she was able to carry our son to full term.

The device kept our son from being born premature and having to stay in the high risk nursery. That monitor saved our insurance compnay a wad of money. Our insurance company still refused to pay for the monitor since it was in developmental stages. We didn't have to pay for the service either so I can only assume Term Guard had to obsorb all the cost.

I'm sure it won't be a big deal once revenues start flowing in just curious how all that works.
