beerthirty: Their new unit R-1000-3S with its three outlet taps looks like a winner. Big units like the MD-1500 and even bigger MD-2000 can serve large food facilities or substitute for several smaller units. Whole Foods is said to be enlarging 100 of their existing stores. Their Boulder Colorado store, which ordered a second ESS unit (per PR), is case in point. WF Boulder store nearly doubled in size to 66,000 sq feet. http://www.customchannels.net/whole-foods-radio/ This suggests that more than one smaller ESS unit could become the installation norm at WF, or they may opt for the big MD line. Ditto Cheesecake Factory which is no small affair, either. They operate large heavy-use facilities and easily would require several units like the R-1000-3S or the big MD to serve their needs properly. If above scenarios hold true, one might conservatively guestimate $40,000 or more per location on average.

WF and CF are just two chains. Yum Brands operates 37,000 stores. It cannot be understated that Whole Foods and Cheesecake Factory are industry icons jealously watched by their peers. Both chains, even in these recessionary times, are expanding. Both are tremendously popular and very profitable. If, as we anticipate, CF and/or WF significantly accelerate their purchases and installations of ESS equipment, then the greater food industry arguably gets the ESS fever, as well.
