IMHO when it comes to silk garments, it's the luxury feel of the material that is so highly valued and sought after rather than wear resistance. (Which is why undergarments (especially for women who appreciate such things more) and silk sheets are a large part of the market). Luxury is what it's all about, which is why it's mostly a women's market, IMHO.

But again: a silk with 60% of the strength of spider silk would be 1 1/2 times as strong as silkworm silk which is only 40% of the strength of pure spider silk.

So providing the silk garment and accessories market with a 60% of spider silks's strength silk would still be a very marked improvement over conventional silk. There is no reason you could not also provide an 80% strenghth of PSS and even PSS product for that market as well but you'd have to charge the same price as you'd be getting from the high tech fiber markets for those qualities. Otherwise you'd just be undercutting the price of your own market in high tech fibers. And some people would probably pay the much higher prices. (Some people buy Lamborginis).

Basically you just provide the market with a range of qualities and let the customers decide which they want. Works for TVs. Works for computers. Works for cars. It's one of the best established principles in marketing!
