Question: Why is spider silk so great? Seriously? I have been long KBLB for a long time and have stayed faithful despite being way underwater most of the time. Much of my confidence has been inspired by Zincfinger's posts. From those, I get that the amazing technology is there and that the company is meeting its goals with the worms. But suddenly i find myself wondering: *why* do the enthusiasts feel so sure that there will be this huge market for spider silk? I mean, what is wrong with ordinary silk? Sure, spider silk may be stronger but is there really any problem with the strength of regular silk for the textile market?

For the high-tech market, aren't there sufficiently strong synthetic fibers already such as Kevlar?

I would be thrilled if there are such needs for our product but i'm less convinced of that right now than i am of our technology to produce it.

This new questioning was partly instigated by igotthemojo's recent postings as well as trying to decide whether i should focus more on my other main investment, ACTC, which is hot on the trail of curing macular degeneration--the leading cause of adult blindness--through the use of embryonic stem cells. They have also made a lot of progress in creating many other highly necessary medical products, including for blood, and heart.
