I believe all this is part of the educational process now aiming at the consumers (ie blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Tweet, etc) and that is gaining steam quickly. First, I believe over the last 3 or 4 years was spent on educating companies and organizations about 2D barcodes by getting them on board and help standardize the 2D barcode space to help with that process. We are now seeing more and more QR codes in our mailboxes, on posters, at the store, etc. And the QR code trend continues to go up as more and more people investigate and talk about QR codes. And thus the social space is now quickly growing about the buzz on 2D barcodes or QR codes.
