226 Music Group, Inc. (Pink Sheets:TTMG) announced today that it plans to leverage the popularity of the iPod and other portable music players by creating a special division for podcasting. A podcast is an audio file in MP3 format delivered online via RSS feed (webfeed) subscriptions.

226 intends to use podcasting as a new and revolutionary way to promote releases of its artists by selling the initial release via a podcast subscription. Subscribers will receive the artist's album prior to the scheduled release and also have access to information on an ongoing basis including interviews, tour updates, road diaries, and other bonus content. 226 believes this value added approach to music sales coupled with the current popularity of digital music players will allow them to aggressively carve out a new and innovated niche to launch their artist roster.

"When you buy an album via podcasting, you are not just buying music, but an ongoing relationship with the artist," states Paul Bassman, CEO of 226 Music Group.

On March 16, 2005 IT Facts reported the following: Samsung expects global shipments of MP3 players to reach 35 million to 45 million units in 2005. The company forecast the shipments will rise to 55 million units in 2006 thanks to growth in demand for both flash memory and hard disk drive based products.

"It would be foolish to ignore this booming trend in music delivery," says Bassman. "We will continue to seek new and innovative ways to cater to this market sector."

About Podcasting

A podcast is an audio file in MP3 format and delivered online via RSS feed (webfeed) subscriptions. Podcast subscribers can listen to the show at his or her leisure, which is the main attraction to the medium. Unlike Internet radio, there is no schedule to follow.

You need a podcast client/receiver to subscribe to a podcast. When you're subscribed, your client will check for new shows automatically when you ask it to. Then you just listen to the podcasts on a computer or portable device (MP3 player, PDA or cellphone) when and where you want to.

The term podcast was derived from two words: iPod (an Apple MP3 player) and broadcast. This is attributed to the pioneers of podcasting who are iPod users. However, don't be deceived by this term, as you don't need an iPod to broadcast and/or listen to podcasts.

Various non-Apple iPod tools and software may be used for podcasting and podcatching. Any computer audio software that support MP3 (Windows Media Player, QuickTime, etc.) and any portable device that supports media download and playback may be used to listen to podcasts.

Podcasting is the term used to refer to the act of making and broadcasting podcasts. People who make and broadcast shows through podcasting are known as podcasters.

NOTE: MP3 is just the standard media format for podcasts. However, podcasts may also be in other media file formats such as .wav, .mid, .mpg, etc. However these formats may not always be supported.
