it seems you feel that in order to make spider silk stronger it has to be made heavier and lose elasticity...

unless spider silk can be made into vests that are significantly stronger than say, dragon skin, and is significantly lighter than dragon skin, then maybe it will accepted as a superior replacement...

but if it is essentially the same in weight and elasticity, forget about it...

and it would seem that if you have to start introducing metals and such, it should add weight to the spider silk and lose some elasticity...and there goes any advantage spider silk had...especially if it costs more to manufacture or the same as dragon skin or kevlar...
