Not true at all. Most companies (not P&D's) announce that the board of directors has approved a buyback program to take place from time to time over the next xxx months. Announcing the buyback plan is in itself as much of a boost to the company as the actual action of buying back shares. It shows the shareholders and the market in general that the board of directors has a great deal of confidence in its own company's future. It is usually intended for long term growth and not for an immediate PPS boost (although that can occur). I'm not saying that this will happen, but it sure would be nice..........
