I think in Africa, that formula works a little differntly, like this maybe:

A=B and B=C then A=XYZ

Where XYZ changes to suit the current situation.

And, Gig, I hadn't really thought much about a back-door deal with Exxon just buying out Anna, but that would surely make them both want the B4 deal to go their way. However, if that was the plan from day one, I would not expect them to condition their bid by stagering payment of the sig bonus. Apparently, that was a significant factor, at least initially, and if Exxon were behind the move, that would be like leaving a penny on the ground for them.
