There is no contradiction at all if you read the wording carefully.

"I have not consulted with them at all" does not mean that he did not agree to be on the board and to be listed, it means that he never attended a meeting.

THere is one very notable thing about all of the wording IMHO: If you look at it carefully it consistently talks AROUND certain issues without addressing them.

Everything he says would be true if he originally agreed to be on the board and then asked to be removed from the board because of being inundated with inappropriate emails from investors asking questions about the science, etc. (After all, he agreed to advise the COMPANY on the science, not all of the investors and especially not all of them individually!)

The way I see it, it is some of the posters here that created a PR problem (in addition to causing the loss of a valuable asset to the company). Admittedly it appears that Kim did not handle it well. But we don't know all the details and it's entirely possible, depending on what actually happened, that there was not any way that it could have been handled well.
