On the contrary, gold shares have been outperforming the metal quite handily since around the middle of May....

If you put your cursor on the blue (XAU) or green (HUI) line just above the May 5 designation to get the daily % read, you'll find that since then, the miners have been doing pretty well compared to the bullion.
