I think one thing that differs significantly is just how bad the US economy was in the 30's. I don't think any of us have a concept of just how bad things were. There were no jobs. There was 25% unemployment. The worst we had during the collapse of this recent bubble was just 6.2%. Also, women didn't work in the 30's (for the most part) so if the man lost his job, there was ZERO household income.
