So be it. That's you. I'm a bit surprised.
Whole businesses have sprung up around assisting one manage one's 'net reputation. HB ought to know if someone google's "Ariad", what are those first 10 site returned. you want to see what others, researchers, doctors, patients, see. Monitoring bulletin boards is huge. Compliments and complaints around products, trading in one's stock, bashing, no matter, if a CEO is not monitoring somehow the companies pulse or even the anecdotal messages around the web, they would be remiss. Check out why Suburu does it ;)) not that there's anything wrong with that. As I said, if HB doesn't know, or Maria isn't reporting to him, there is an issue.
Bulletin boards, twitter, blah, blah, companies have to be on this as appropriate. If not the CEO, then the PR/mkting folks. They report up.
Furthermore, recent court rulings have gone against anonymity on the web. CEO's definitely track what out there, somehow.
Ariad finds the same research we find here, and perhaps not as well. They check here.
FYI re: board management, I'll have limited access the next few days, mostly evenings
