When the MMs own so much of the stock and want more. They can start selling to drive the price down and create a downward trend. Once this downward trend starts and the individual nervous investors begin to sell off so as not to hold the bag so to speak then the MMs will slowly start buying back in, their shares and the nervous ones.
Just to put it simply that is.
