I have a question for anyone who watched the Champions Tour tournament this weekend. Jerry Pate had about 190 yards over water for his second shot on the par 5 18th, and only needed to make par to win. His caddy talked him into laying up and he ended up making bogey after 3 putting and eventually losing in the playoff.

My question is.............do you feel his caddy was wrong in trying to get him to lay up or was it the right play and Jerry just blew it by 3 putting?

My view is......that the lay up was 100% the right move, and the caddy got his player to within 20 feet and a 2 putt of winning the tournament and Jerry just could not finish the job. Also, I do want to say that Jerry in no way blammed his caddy, and said that it was his call in the end to make, but he did say it was the wrong shot and he should have went for the green in 2.

Also something to think about is that Jerry fatted his 2nd shot on 18 in an earlier round and hit it about 50 yards coming up just short of the water. Said it was the ugliest shot he had ever hit in his professional career.

What do you think? Was the caddy right in getting him to lay up? Was Jerry right in wanting to go for it in 2?
