I’ve personally blacklisted Enigma as a software company. Like so many others, they use trick tactics in order to get you to purchase the software. Don’t buy their garbage. People who use trickery do not deserve honest customers.

Spyhunter has been identified by Spybot and Zonealarm (on my computer) as a virus. In Spybot it says that Spyhunter will generate it’s own malware so it can remove it. Is that true? Has anyone else heard this?

I purchased spyhunter to get rid of a virus that my freebie software could not remove.. They charged me double the cost, refused to return my email, and now, the pop ups and spam is worse than ever. My freebie software recognized spyhunter as a virus also… BAD NEWS STAY AWAY!

THis is a dangerous company. I realized I made a mistake when I first paid for and downloaded the product. But imagine how angry I was when another $30 charge showed up on my credit card 6 months later. This is what I imagine to be their big “secret.” A time bomb so to speak. I just used an updated Spybot and an updated PC-Cillin to erase all malware on my PC. However, there was one called Smitfraud.C that Spybot was not able to remove in its entirety. I Googled it, in order to find removal methods others hae tried, and found a link to a “Smitfraud.C Removal Tool”, which actually directed me to a site run by Spyhunter. I was instructed to download their custom Smitfraud.C removal program and install it, or else follow a lengthy process of manual deletion of core system files and registry entries.

I’ve been a tech for a while. I fix computers. I’ve got multiple certs…

I saw that some of the .dll and .sys files that were being suggested to remove would disable some security functions in Internet Explorer, and might even cause Windows Explorer itself to not funtion properly. Also, some of the regitstry entries listed as being part of the Smitfraud.C trojan were, in fact, not.

I knew that this was a fraud, and so I downloaded it and installed it (knowing that PC-Cillin and Spyware would cover each other’s tracks and detect it if it were), and sure enough, it was picked up by both my programs, and guess what?

It even installed and ran, in less than ONE MINUTE, two OTHER spyware/trojan programs, called DeepDive and NoAdware. This was blatant invasion, and I’m curently in the process of looking these guys up and complaining to the BBB, my state commerce office, and others…

If they are respnsible for the creation and/or distribution of these other two spyware/trojan programs, then I’d say that makes them a very bad product to deal with.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, DEAL WITH SPYHUNTER OR ENIGMA SOFTWARE GROUP. THEY ARE CREATORS AND DISTRIBUTORS OF SPYWARE, TROJANS, WORMS, AND OTHER MALWARE. THEIR SUPPOSED “ANTI-SPYWARE” PROGRAMS ACTUALLY INSTALL SPYWARE ONTO YOUR SYSTEM.

spyhunter is really a thief, of your money. I googled xpantivirus, and was directed to a site that looked like wikopedia. Reading the page made you think it was wikopedia and they were recommending spyhunter as free. it isn’t. after the very slow scan, I was informed I had to pay 29.95 for the software to purge the spyware. After I paid the money, the spyware was still present. Then I went to “google, pack”, and downloaded the free spyware package and it did the trick. amazing how deceptive the enigma spy hunter software is. Don’t buy it. The free google software is better.

SpyHunter is DEFINITELY as bad as the malware it claims to defend against. I got VirusHeat installed without my consent in the form of a Windows Media Player codec. I searched for ways to remove it using what I THOUGHT was Google in my Firefox searchbar. Turns out the VirusHeat hijacked the searchbar so I was actually directed to a search results site that looked surprisingly like Google! Not paying close attention, I checked out a site that supposedly showed how to manually remove VirusHeat. It recommended a certain “free” spyware remover called SpyHunter to get rid of VirusHeat. Since downloading SpyHunter, my computer now crashes every 12-13 minutes because I don’t pay for/download their “fixes”, has made my infection problems 10x worse! Fake alerts pop up designed to look like Windows alerts to download various antispyware programs. They look very much like real Windows alerts with the logos, but certain words misspelled. SPYHUNTER IS NOTHING BUT A VIRUS! DO NOT DOWNLOAD UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! It actively blocks attempts to revert to an earlier restore point, and blocks AntiVir (good, free antivirus software downloaded unfortunately AFTER being infected) from updating or accessing “virus information” that would reveal SpyHunter as a virus! Enigma is obviously also responsible for the VirusHeat malware. Who wants in on a class action suit against Enigma?

Same problems as you guys. They changed my home page. To fix it I purchased SpyHunter, but they charged double amount. No response after e-mailing them. Wasted money and time. I have to remove it before 6 month. I hope they will be caught soon.

I’m glad I found this page. While searching for the ways to remove XP antivirus, I’ve discovered (to my surprise) that forums persistently recommend SpyHunter as the best removal tool to cure this malware! It’s so strange that instead of more common Lavasoft or AVG they recommend the program I’ve never heard about. And it looks like SpyHunter is not that much better than the malware it is targeted at.

This company and it’s so called “software” are are a sham. My computer was recently inffected by a virus masquerading as antivirus software called antivirus2008. This virus wreaked havoc on my PC and my current anti-virus software (trend micro) which was out of date at the time was unable to remove it. After an exhaustive search on google I was repeated led to believe by several different sources to think this companys software called “spyhunter” was the only solution to the problem. Like an idiot I bought their B.S. program and tried to use it to remove antivirus2008. Not only did it fail to remove the virus, my CPU’s stability was even worse for the effort. I am happy to report that malwarebytes.org solution to antivirus was spot on and their removal software (WHICH WAS FREE) completely oblitereted the antivirus2008 virus. Ultimately, I updated my legitimate antivirus software AND TO MY SURPRISE, TREND MICRO DISCOVERED THAT BURIED IN THE SPYHUNTER PROGRAM’S CODE WERE SEVERAL EMBEDDED TROJANS. I now suspect that not only is this a front company for selling useless software, but that they are in fact the originators of the virus my PC was originally infected with (which, incidentally, wanted me to purchase the downloadable removal tool to the virus for the SAME price as the Spyhunter suite sells for). I highly reccomend not doing business with this company and if you have reporting them you whatever govermental body regulates their business practices in your state or country.

Interesting reading, especially the comment from Enigma regarding their product, SpyHunter, which is also blacklisted in hpHosts and Spybot…such blacklisting is not done without foundation or good reason. There are many FREE virus and malware tools available that do a far better job tan many of the paid versions.

This has been very interesting reading. Thank you all for contributing. Anitvirus XP 2008 has infected my machine about five times in the last two days. It somehow got past both McAfee and SpyBot, although SpyBot was able to detect and remove it each time. Even so, Internet Explorer (and my connection speed overall) seems slower and less responsive afterwards. I’m seriously debating WipeDriving my machine and doing a complete reinstall.

My computer got infected with AV 2008 on 7 aug and I spent a couple of days trying to get past the fake google searches etc. that were going on. A few sites were recommending the Spyhunter3 software but as most of my internet access had been completely hijacked i had no way of checking it out. Anyway, I paid for SP3 after the ‘free’ scan and got a user name and password, but when I logged it it repeatedly said ‘authentication failed’. I did ‘open a ticket’ with their support but it did not have any suggestions other than to check for spelling mistakes – there weren’t any. Eventually I figured my only way out was a complete reinstall of windows. That seems to have done the trick but i thought before i tried again to register SP3 I would check it out. I’m so glad i came across this site before i made a huge mistake!

(infect) their computers with MALWARE, when they execute (run) the installation program! It puzzles me that Google would allow Enigma to run a “sponsored link” position when I ran a Google search for “removing Antivirus XP2008?! Oversight or corporate greed?

And Mr Malaspina, why don’t you get a real job with a real software company? (mal = bad, spina = spine) Personally I think you should be called “Nospina”, not Malaspina! Companies like ENIGMA SOFTWARE make me sick to my stomach!

hmmmm wierd, I too bought spyhunter3 security suite to remove antivirus 2008. It did just that, that and a few other pests to include virusheat. Spybot search and destroy found but could not remove those rascaly pests, but spyhunter3 security suite did. I use trend micro internet security suite with it and they never conflict with each other. I also use nortons security scan and spyware doctor that comes with the google package on one pc and similar setups with antivir now avg’s 7.5 and the avg8 with jetico firewall or what used to be kerio’s firewall etc in other setups. even installed it on my daughters vista with mcafees… and have nothing that conflicts.

I cannot speak to whether or not SpyHunter3 was created to remove specifically the AntiVirus 2008 trojan and its 2009 variant or not, but what I can attest to is that it has worked wonderfully for me on my own machines.

I also have a paid subscription to Spyware Doctor which I renew annually, along with AVG 8, and they all seem to get along just fine. AVG runs every night, and it never complains at all about SH3 on any of my 3 PCs that it’s installed on.

Not sure what all the hubbub is about – I would easily say I’m a satisfied customer. I will monitor my credit card that I used to ensure that I’m not charged again in the future for their software, however. Good luck!

While I am just a novice at this, I downloaded and purchased SpyHunter to take care of a Zlob trojan that my personal home computer picked up. I am loving the program and my computer’s speed increased greatly. AVG (free version)was not able to remove this trojan. In regards to everyone talking about being charged every 6 months, if they would have read the agreement it CLEARLY states that the product purchase is for 6 months and there is an automatic charge to the credit card.

I purchased this program with the intent on clearing out some spyware. This program did nothing, the only thing they helped was themselves to my money. I ended up reformatting my computer in the end and will never use this program again. I emailed them about a refund with all my information including my name last 4 digits of my credit card and the order numbers and nothing they wont even respond. They wont pick up their phone either. On top of that I cant get onto their website to send in a ticket. So I have already sent in a letter to dispute the charges with my bank. This company is shady, very shady. The only responses they give are on forums like this where masses of people complain about their product…for every 1 good thing I see about it I see 30 bad complaints about it. These people should be investigated thoroughly by a government agency.

To all you people who think it worked, try downloading s p y b o t s e a r c h a n d d e s t r o y and it will come up with 3x the amount of spy ware on your computer and that program is in deed absolutely 100% free and works very well.

How do you know spyhunter 3 installs a virus, how do you know this for a fact. I sat down and looked at the code and no where did i see any virus imbedded in the code:

Oh by the way, I just re-upped my subscription I am using it with avg’s free anti spyware, malware program, the yahoo toolbar antyspy program and the one that comes with fixit utilities 8 and nortons that comes with the google package. Not one program is reporting it as malware and not one is conflicting with each other. It is a stable suite. Oh and as far as wanting something for nothing, you get what you pay for. Can’t expect people to build programs for you to use for free, they have to get paid somehow. It might be a donation, maybe you free loaders should drop 10 or so bucks now and again to help in the development.

I do virus/spyware removal daily for a living, along with IT consulting for many people.

I use all of the following programs:
Kaspersky, NOD32, Spybot, WindowsDefender, AVG FREE/PRO, Malwarebytes remover, Spyhunter 3, Reg Cure or Registry Mechanic, HIJACKThis, WINSOCKFIX, LSPFIX with custom reg keys, Rcrawler for manual program removal, and use advanced file sharing/permissions credentials .
Spyhunter 3 and malwarebytes are the only programs which can remove the “go.google.com” and rootkit/trojan DNS changer virus.
Run scans in normal mode, then again in safe mode. Remove all “browser helper objects” (hijack this or browse to machine->software->microsft->windows->currentversion->explorer->”browser helper objects” -> and delete all values added to the right, under the BHO folder.

Has anyone considered a class action suit against this company for fraud? I physically disconnected from the Internet and ran several scans that all kept coming up with “parasites”, or adware cookies. There is no way the computer could become infected since it was not connected to the internet! The location of these cookies displayed by SpyHunter was also fictitious. The cookies were always displayed under the C:\Document and Settings\Owner\Cookies, which on my system does not even exist!

I have been using SpyHunter for 3 years now. I have had absolutely no problems with it except that Spybot insists on blocking it (it is reversible). However Spybot recently changed my HOSTS file to prevent all access to the Enigma website.
The SpyHunter tech sorted it out for me (online) explaining and showing me exactly what he was doing.
I understand that SpyBot may have changed their stance in their latest version but cannot confirm it.

“Spyware Protect 2009?, so I looked it up and on the google search the fist thing that came up was SpyHunter. I down loaded it and it did indeed remove the Spyware Protect 2009, but I believe that SpyHunter created the “protect 2009?. It was extremely anoying.
After purchasing it, it worked for about a week, then started screwing up my computer and not allowing my fire wall to run or my antuy virus software to run. I went to get updates and it said that “I was not connected to the internet”. I sent in a ticket for help from inside the software and it went in to them and I got a response that told me how to get the updates. It doesn’t work. It is not possible to have the ticket go through and the update to not communicate.

It is a scam and I am so angry about being so stupid as to not read about this GD company. There are bad reports on them all over the net.
Never buy any anti spam software without going to another comptuer that is not infected and doing a google on them. If you google while the software is on your computer you will not see the bad reports. I hope these people go to hell and soon.

Spyhunter is a malicious program that hijacks your computer and leads you to believe that it is an anti virus program, When it itself is a virus, it scares you into buying it. it is installed disguised as other programs and it is very difficult to get rid of. Looking through the web I find that it has a vast campaign into making us believe that it is in fact an anti spy ware. Many websites are guided to make us believe it is legitimate! There is no way to remove it by uninstalling it. it reinstall itself as you try to uninstall it. Very well done I have other anti virus programs installed and they can not detect a virus or malware in it.
If you try to search on windows for spyhunter it will just reinstall itself!!!!!

The only way I got rid of it was taking a chance and going through the registry, Once in the registry, I searched in the registry for everything that had the name Spyhunter or enigma, I deleted any file with either one of these names, and kept searching, then I went to program files and deleted the folders containing enigma and spyhunte’s files. Some of them will not allow me to delete them, I rebooted and then I was able to delete them. I know I got rid of it, I didn’t uninstall the program but this is the best I can do and it worked.
This program is relentless!! Oddly enough there are no programs out there that will promise to remove Spyhunter and if you find one that sounds to friendly it might be the same company that created it looking to get money to get rid of it.
Coming from Clearwater Fl. I am not surprised Clearwater is the home of the scams.

Of course I NEVER respond to this type of garbage, and ALWAYS shut down the computer or use Ctrl-Alt-Del method to clear every open page on the browser.

Always remember to follow this technique when any pop-up box solicitation appears. If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of the warning, and want to confirm if it was a genuine alert by your anti-virus, just do a quick scan AFTER the restart.

I have been using SpyHunter for years without any suspicions it was not doing what it says it does. I did have to reinstall it from scratch a while back and noticed after a complete uninstall every file associated with it was still on my system even though the uninstaller said it had been completely removed. I use AVG as well and SH always finds cookies and tracking software that AVG seems to miss, or just not view as a pest. I am going to have to pay attention to what it is finding and where it is located. I do know that when I run it two times with a brief interval it finds nothing or little the second pass and if I don;t run it for a while it finds cookies that are clearly associated with webpages I have visited. It seems to be doing what it says it will do.
