In Windows XP, I can create shortcuts to DOS programs and they work as expected. In Windows 7, another approach is

needed.

Right-click the desktop, select NEW, then Shortcut.

In location box, insert

%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /C DosProgram.EXE

Shortcuts for DOS programs using this command execute as expected on Windows 7. As well, Windows 7 displays these

shortcuts' icons properly.

Note: This method creates a .LNK type shortcut. When a shortcut is made to a DOS program directly, a (Windows 7

unfriendly) .PIF (Program Information File) type shortcut is created.

your pc, just to clean the memory. Of course there is a simpler way to do this by creating a shortcut. Here is what you

have to do:

If Windows cannot find your backup, it will give you an opportunity to tell it where to look. Point it toward the backup you

found manually.

Although this seems like a lot of work, it's far easier than the work you'd face if you cannot restore your system.
